I Agree to Pray For You

Ever had friends coming up to you and asked this question “would you mind praying for me?”

When I get a prayer request, I would only agree when I am sure and confident that I would pray through on their behalf.

One of the best ways to following up on your response into praying for someone is to pray for him / her immediately upon saying yes. This is my own practice. There are some other good ways to actually follow up on a prayer request like:

1. Write the request in a list

Take out your notepad and a pen, or type it down in your blackberry or a mobile device, and write the request down upon agreeing to pray. It’ll be cool if you have a reminder service that helps by prompting you at a set time.

Then pray during your devotional time or quiet time.

2. Prayer conference

Get a few of your buddies and pray together through a conference call or in a prayer meeting at someone’s place.

This is a cool way to build up the atmosphere where everyone can pray through strongly together. It also helps when you and your friend knows that there are people who are backing one another up with their time, strength and focus. There’s power in numbers.

3. Visiting your friend

If you are somewhere near your friend’s place, do “happen to drop by”, or ask the person out for a walk.

This is also one of the practices that I follow when I am able to get the time off to do that.

The visitation approach is not one that you would just go and meet up with your friend, pray for him / her, and then leave. It is more of spending time with your friend, talking, sharing stuffs, and then if necessary, pray for the person.

By turning up and being there with your friend can do wonders.

Usually when we are outside and being busy with our day to day schedules, and when an SMS for a prayer request is received, it is definitely nice to stop for a minute, and take that short time to do a prayer on behalf for your friend. A short minute of powerful focus can produce tremendous changes to someone else’s life.

And then let him or her know that you have acknowledged the request and have prayed through.

What other ways do you have when it comes to accepting a prayer request? Discuss and respond to this post by adding a comment.

  • Hi Daniel, my friend is looking for an article on prayer for the church magazine. I’m directing her to your article here. She’d like to include your article there, of course with link and acknowledgment. You’ll be popular in my church back in Indonesia =)
