There’s no such thing as having more than 24 physical hours each day. None of us have the privilege of any second more, but we have the ability to lose every second by spending it unproductively.
Resting is important.
We can only get more productive after every round of good and well rest night that we get.
Ever heard of people being sleep deprived?
No surprise that under performance and many lapse in our work are largely related to not having a proper rest through sleeping.
It is no use for you to get up early and stay up late, working for a living. The Lord gives sleep to those he loves. - Psalm 127:2, New Century Version
Different and interesting sleep-hacks you can adopt to extend your wake-time day
There are people, like me, who goes through different amount of hours of sleep everyday, and we know that our brain’s ability to function will deteriorate with inadequate sleep.

Wikipedia’s entry on sleep had stated that the optimal hours of sleep for adults is 8, while there are many, more, articles that studied on sleep hours and found out that 8 hours of sleep may be deadly, and recommends that there is no reason to sleep any longer than 6.5 hours in a day.
Yet again, there are other variations of sleeping cycles that have been given cool sounding names to them like Power Naps, where we are encouraged to take short naps in between our days of 30 minutes to an hour, and here’s another sleep pattern that the online community have came up (in short, sleep-hack) with to extend and stretch their wake-time daily to get more things done (GTD) called Polyphasic Sleep.
Polyphasic is a term that is defined with these two examples (as taken from dictionary.com):
- Having more than two phases
- The habit of having to do more than one thing at a time
There’s tons of information and experiment logs posted on the internet about this sleep-hack, from a huge article in Wikipedia, to an information list on polyphasic sleep over at Lifehack, to Steve Pavlina’s log entries on this sleeping pattern over at his personal development website, and also Kuro5hin’s and Everything2’s take on a well known experiment done by puredoxyk (formerly Official Uberman’s Sleep Blog), with pros and cons, and also tips on this sleep pattern.
4 powerful quotes and pointers in getting you to enjoy your sleep!
Regardless whether you are going to adopt any of the above approaches into your sleep-wake-day cycles, your day will only become productive and happy by enjoying every single bit of time you get for your sleeping time.

1. Sleep when you need to
There are definitely a time to work, a time to play, a time to write, a time to fellowship, but when all is done, you definitely must have a time to sleep, and while doing so, get a peaceful, non-interrupted, zero-distraction, carefree, sleep!
There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep. - Homer, The Odyssey
2. Turn off your conscience engine
Even conscience got to take a step back to get you an enjoyable sleep be it 4 hours, 6.5 hours, or even 8 hours, and 12 hours for those who adopts the polyphasic sleep approach and have a dedicated day meant for rest to get your body back in tip-top shape to battle through the next week of work and play.
A conscience is like a baby. It has to go to sleep before you can. - Unknown author
3. Un-clutter your surroundings and thoughts
Finish up, clear, complete, every task that have to be done in your day, throw out every single bit of worries (in whole, and in details) by penning them down, praying through the list, and stop thinking about them when you hit the bed.
Finish each day before you begin the next, and interpose a solid wall of sleep between the two. This you cannot do without temperance. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
4. Dream the best impossible dream
While you are at it sleeping, go dream the best dream ever, as you get your wonderful night rest through sleeping.
To achieve the impossible dream, try going to sleep. - Joan Klempner
And in doing so, you can wake up fresh, energized, recharged, empowered, and geared-up, ready to take on the next day and doing the impossible that you dreamed of.
Go enjoy your sleep when you are done with your day without worries. Enjoying every single minute and second makes me happy the next day. That too will strengthen your countenance where you can use it to your advantage.
Have a great night’s rest and go have a powerful weekend ahead!

@Mon-Ting: I used to have power naps in class. After 10 to 15 minutes dozing off in lessons made me more alert. Haha. That was also how I turned my F9 into a B3 in Mathematics for the O’level years.

Daniel -
Great post my friend. I sleep normally around 5-6 hours and that works fine with me. I find it helpful to work till I get tired rather than a specific time to go to sleep. With that technique, I normally sleep within few mins. after going to my bed.

@Shilpan: Hey! I do that too. Haha. Easier to sleep and all. That was also mentioned in #3 about un-cluttering before hitting the bed. It is not cool to sleep worrying about things at all.
